React builds interfaces for web browsers using HTML and CSS. React Native builds mobile apps that render native iOS and Android components. They share concepts and some logic, but screens, navigation and device features are built separately.
Can one codebase serve both iOS and Android?
A large part of the app can be shared, but the share depends on the design and features. Some screens, permissions and device features need platform-specific code, and behavior can differ between iOS and Android, so we test on both.
When do you write native modules?
When the app needs a device feature or SDK that React Native does not cover, such as certain Bluetooth, camera or payment integrations. A native module written in Swift or Kotlin connects that feature to the React Native app. We identify this during scoping.
