visits and manual document checks for passport renewal. Citizens abroad can submit
biometrics remotely, have their data verified against national databases, track applications
in real time, and complete payments digitally with built-in fraud prevention, fully
compliant with ICAO standards.

Their key challenge was modernizing passport renewal services for citizens living abroad, as the
existing process required physical embassy visits, manual document checks, and lengthy approval
cycles. The client required a secure, government-grade digital identity platform that could
remotely capture and validate biometric information, verify applicant data against national
databases, prevent identity fraud, manage payments and approvals, and provide real-time
application tracking while complying with ICAO and government regulations.

Solution

Our team analysed the client’s passport renewal, biometric verification, national database
validation, payment, approval, and compliance workflows. Accordingly, Ludych developed a secure
and scalable Digital Identity Management System that enables citizens living abroad to complete
passport renewal remotely through a mobile-first, biometric-driven process. The solution was
developed using NestJS, Node.js, Angular, Ionic, Capacitor, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ,
Docker, Jenkins, and Argo CD, with biometric, OCR/NFC, payment, notification, and government-system
integrations.

Applicants can securely upload passports and identity documents, with OCR and NFC technologies used to extract and validate document information.
Biometric Identity Verification

Facial images, active liveness information, fingerprints, and other biometric data are captured and matched against passport photographs and national identity records.
Government & National ID Verification

Applicant demographic and identity information is cross-verified through connected government APIs, CRN, NPI, and national identity databases.
Secure Payments & Fee Calculation

The platform dynamically calculates applicable passport and service fees, while Stripe supports payment authorization, fund holding, and final payment capture after successful verification.
Risk-Based Review & Approval

Applications are routed to authorized officers based on biometric scores, demographic mismatches, verification results, and risk thresholds for approval, rejection, escalation, or additional-information requests.
Application Tracking & Compliance

Citizens receive real-time status updates and notifications, while detailed audit logs maintain application history, security events, payments, reviewer decisions, and compliance evidence.
